Became increasingly evident to me that I would not be making any of the 8:30 or 9:30 A.M. screenings offered throughout the week, especially since to get tickets, I needed to get there about an hour ahead of time. Did make it over to Slamdance by noon though, along with a bunch of people from my condo to go see our friend Jay Lowy's short film called "12 Stops on the Road to Nowhere" shown in conjunction with a feature called "14 Ways to Wear Lipstick". Jay's short was incredibly twisted but very funny, and ended up winning the Audience award for favorite short at Slamdance (which means it will be shown in the Best of Slamdance series held in mid-Feb at the American Cinematheque, so don't miss it!) The feature that followed, however, was one of the more painful experiences I have had during my movie-going career. Note to filmmakers: if you MUST use voiceovers, you MUST have a damn good movie underneath, choose your actors EVER so carefully and remember--your editor is your friend. Had some errands to run that took up the rest of the day, like walking a mile and half to get my food for the week at the local Albertson's, which remarkably enough had a pretty good selection of organic food, as apparently does Dan's just down the street, although I never made it there to personally check out their store. (took the bus home though--wasn't into repeating that walk with groceries in tow!) By doing my own shopping and cooking I completely avoided all ridiculous Park City restaurant lines and prices--had meals which were healthy and quick, since I precooked stuff for the whole week. This day for lunch though I had an excellent vegetarian chili--which cost all of $3.50 at the local health food store just off Main Street, and was obtained without waiting in a line at all. So this place got my "Food Find of the Festival" Award. Great muffins too. That evening, went to the Guinevere party with my
friend Helene
Udy. Hosted by Miramax, this party was a hot
ticket, full of total Hollywood types and completely, ridiculously
packed. Meaningful conversations were out of the question;
it was way too loud and everyone was basically there to drink on
Miramax's dime. We stayed for the first hour and then left
when it got too crowded to breathe. Even though it was past
midnight, the line was out the door and around the corner just
to get in. But I did get a cool ski hat as a party favor,
and Estee Lauder facial lotion with 15 SPF which came in handy
for when I hit the slopes later in the week.
